So, what’s the game plan for PCT?
The most common protocol is a combination of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) & Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERM’s) such as Nolvadex & Clomid.
As a general rule, using all three in combination will give your body its best shot at returning your natural Testosterone production. Some will use 2 or 1 of these compounds along for PCT, but that does not guarantee full restoration of your natural Testosterone production
The SERM helps to boost testosterone levels and the HCG helps to restore natural testosterone production. This two-pronged approach helps to restore balance to your hormones and prevent any potential side effects.
One of the most popular SERMs on the market is clomiphene citrate (CC), also known as Clomid. It’s been around for decades and has been shown to be effective in numerous studies. Master Your Mind, Master Your Physique – Part 6: Summary & Baselines
We’ve covered quite a bit of area in these articles & I hope you have enjoyed the content!
The following is a quick summary of the main points we covered as well as the actions you should have/are undertaking-
- Understand that our self talk is composed on words, pictures & emotions. This self-talk accumulates into beliefs which sets our self-image
- Know how powerful our beliefs are, whether their true or not
- Have a basic understanding of your Reticular Activating System & how it filters based on what it perceives to be valuable information
- Have spent some time thinking & defining what your ideal physique and have a new and improved self-image of yourself
- Have defined an affirmation that confirms this self-image which you’re using to constantly control your self-talk
- You identify when you have negative self-talk and correct yourself
- On a subconscious level you are assimilating to your new self-image and on a conscious level you are putting in the hard work/effort required to achieve your ideal physique
Now if you’ve done this you’ve set yourself up onto the path for success to achieve your ideal physique. The beauty in this is that you can apply the above for any any goal you may have.

The end is never the end, the goal post must always be moved. We must explore beyond our comfort zone as this is how we grow.
Your baseline resets when you achieve your goal, this is your new normal. The trick is to keep setting higher expectations of yourself, higher ambitions and instil a higher sense of your self-image. Our baselines reset & due to this our ambitions need to reset too for the better.
Happiness is not the attainment of a goal, it’s the journey there. And I wish you a great journey.

Master Your Mind, Master Your Physique – Part 5: Affirming your Self Image
We use our self talk to affirm our self image. This forms our belief in who we are and what we can achieve.
I’m hoping you’ve completed the exercise in my previous article and have an idea of what your ideal physique is. If you have not done this please go back to the previous article and finish the ‘self-image’ exercise.
Now you have a basic idea on what your physique will look & feel like. Next we want define it further by drafting an affirmation. We’re going to use this to help control our self-talk, build our new reality/self-image which we will then assimilate to.
This is where we separate the doers from the dreamers. Most people won’t want to define their new self-image & affirmations. That’s because to do this you are setting parameters where you may fail or far short. And that’s enough to deter 90% of readers.
Well, I challenge youth move past this. Give the exercise a go. You’ll be amazed at what happens next.
Application time again!
Now this is where I’m asking those of you playing at home to take some time and write out what your affirmations will be. Use the keywords from your self image exercise to create a few sentences explaining & affirming what your ideal physique is.
Now there are some key principles we want to apply when doing this-
- Affirm in the present tense- Write the affirmation as if you have already achieved it. You want your mind to believe this is your reality so you will work towards that.
- Apply emotion to this new self-image- Emotions are strong and they will drive us towards our new self-image quicker.
- Don’t get stuck on it being perfect- A poor affirmation is better than no affirmation. Just write your affirmation down, then edit it, then edit it again. Get it to a point where your happy but don’t spend to long and procrastinate here. This is a 15-20 mins exercise max. Just get it done.
Our old mate Steve did this exercise and this is what he came up with-
“I’m very attractive, muscular & lean with visible abs. My physique draws positive attention and this makes me feel confident, proud and sexy” – Steve
Now you have your affirmations great! Are we going to print them off, stick them on a wall somewhere and then forget about them? Hell no!
We now need to utilise them and use them to drive our self-image through repetitive affirmations & visualisation, and here’s how were going to do it-
- Each day when you first wake up take 15 mins to yourself. Use a journal to re-write your affirmation & then read it out loud (in a mirror if possible, eye ball yourself & be serious!)
- Visualise that physique. Feel the positive and inspiring emotions that come along with it. Affirm this is who you are and what you believe
- Repeat this at night time. I want you imagining this new you as a reality of here and now. Go into slumber knowing you’re the man!
- Do this as often a possible. Have your affirmations printed out and easily accessible.
- Display it somewhere in your house, have it as the background to your phone, hell even have it playing on loop as you fall asleep every-night if you can. The more you use your self talk to affirm your new self-image the more effective it will be.
This is not a tick and flick exercise. You need to be all in and be dedicated to control your self talk as much as possible to confirm your new self image. I guess what I’m saying here is you want to affirm your new self image as much as reasonably possible. If you’re not doing this daily you’re wasting your time.
Zac’s Tip– Watch out for negative self-talk. Were all guilty of it. This if a form of negative self affirmation and it must be stomped out. Try to make a conscious effort at identifying when you are doing this and follow it up with ‘this is not me’ and affirm your positive self image again and again. Remember your mind does not like you holding 2 conflicting beliefs at once. It’s not built for that.
Now doing this isn’t your ticket to easy street. You still need to put in conscious effort but you will find achieving your ideal physique will be much easier. You’ll notice opportunities to improve as well as pitfalls to avoid. You subconscious will be working for you but you still need to consciously make the required effort!

Master Your Mind, Master Your Physique – Part 4: Your Self Image
Your self-image is formed by your own thoughts and beliefs, this is your reality of yourself as you perceive it to be true. Your Reticular Activating System sets you up for success by allowing you to see more that you did before to help you maintain to assimilate to the reality of what you perceive to be your self-image.
Think about the last time you got into the best shape of your life. I’d bet you had a strong self-image of yourself in great physical shape, am I right?
Let’s take the classic shredding for a festival or a holiday scenario. It might seem a bit cliché but bugger me drunk its effective. You have a clear vision of the physique you want to achieve and that’s enough to push you past previous boundaries that results in an improved physique.
Let’s take Steve for example, he’s gotten in & out of shape quite a few times in the past. Steve’s problem is that he needs to create a strong self-image in his mind that will work long term rather than short term.
Sure, he might get semi-jacked before a labs trip to the Gold Coast but that’s soon lost a few weeks post vacation. Yes, here Steve’s self-image and associated daydreaming has helped him push through a previous plateau. But what were really looking for here is long term sustained improvement in our physique.
Having a positive & defined self-image of your physique, and then replaying this self-image is a very powerful tool to achieve your ideal physique. It’ll help you be a better version of yourself.
Application time!
This is where I want those of you playing at home to take a few minutes to yourself.
Go lay down somewhere comfy and actually think about how you perceive yourself. What is your self-image of your physique? What does your self-talk sound when you’re thinking about your physique? What are you assimilating to?
Then I want you to imagine your ideal physique. Imagine how nice it would be to attain and sustain that. The satisfaction you’ll get, the change in your life style & how you feel about yourself.
Now note down what comes to mind, it just needs to be the main keywords (e.g. jacked, lean, BF%, abs etc) & what the resulting emotions are that you feel from achieving this (e.g. feeling proud, feeling sexy etc)
Zac’s Tip 1 – You want to be in a relaxed & creative induced environment. For me my creative moments come from smoking a little weed, it widens my creative lens. This might not be for you but I bet you know of a way to get your creative juices flowing. Whatever does this for you I suggest you use it to empower yourself through this process.
Zac’s Tip 2 – Our brain works in 2 modes (creating and editing) so when noting down what your ideal physique is and the associated emotions just write it all out without stopping/slowing down to edit it or fix spelling mistakes. There’s time for that later & we do not want to interrupt the creative process!

Master Your Mind, Master Your Physique – Part 3: Your Reticular Activating System
What you aim at determines what you see.
At any one time we have a million points of information that we can take in thanks to our senses. When we’re in the gym there’s music playing, numerous people grunting, plates knocking about & our gym crush wearing her favourite booty popping leggings.
Obviously thats too much to focus on, to get around this our brain filters out 99.9% of what’s going on and only focuses on what’s important. Wait, hold up there! How the hell does our brain determine what’s important? We can both be in a room and observe completely different things.
Why are you noticing one thing and I’m noticing something different?
Well step in the OG, your Reticular Activating System. This guy is located at the base of your brain, its main job is to filter the incoming information and filter out the 99.9% of it that’s of no use to you. It decides what to filter based on what it deems will provide you with value based on your beliefs and your perceived reality.
This is all happening on a subconscious level and is super powerful if you have it working towards what you want to achieve…..like having a killer physique!
Have you ever gone car shopping and landed on a favourite car? Have you then started seeing that type of car everywhere?
Your focus & aim is that new car, you are now seeing that car everywhere. There’s not more of them on the road. You’re just noticing more of them all thanks to you Reticular Activating System.
On one hand this system is very complex in the vast amount of filtering it does and on the other hand it’s very basic in the sense it filters based on what you have programmed it to, that being your reality & beliefs.
We discussed how your thoughts (self-talk) builds your objective reality, whether that be true or not. Your Reticular Activating System then works to assimilate you to this reality by filtering the information accordingly. Thus, what you aim at really does determine what you see.
Another important concept is that you can’t hold 2 conflicting beliefs at one time. You hold your belief and then you assimilate to that belief. When you have conflicting beliefs you assimilate to the stronger of the 2. Theres no splitting hairs here.
A clear example of this is people who have a poor mindset who then win lotto. Over night they’re loaded but they still have a poor mindset. Their reality does not match their self-image/reality and they hold 2 conflicting beliefs at one time (rich/poor).
If they don’t change their mindset they will then spend/waste/giveaway their winning and return to being poor again. In doing so they have assimilated back to their reality that matches their poor mindset. This is why 70% of lottery winners end up going broke and 33% end up declaring bankruptcy. Isn’t that insane?

Master Your Mind, Master Your Physique – Part 2: Thoughts, Beliefs & Reality
If you can control your thinking you can control your life.
What’s going on upstairs when you’re thinking all day long?
Our thoughts are nothing more than our self-talk. It’s the internal dialogue we’re constantly having with-in ourselves & is composed of three things-
- Words – What we’re telling ourselves
- Picture – What we’re imagining / visualising
- Emotions – What we’re feeling
When you hit a new PB in the gym & you’re chuffed. You think to yourself- ‘Yer I’m strong, I’m the man!’ (words), you see yourself as a unit (picture) & you feel proud and accomplished (emotion).
Now our thoughts are very powerful. Collectively our thoughts confirm our beliefs & our beliefs set our reality to how we perceive it to be true. Our brain then works to assimilate ourselves to that reality (more on this in the next few articles)
Now your beliefs don’t even need to be true for them to have a dramatic impact on your life. A doctor can give someone a placebo and it can heal their illness. Can we please just take a minute to actually think about how amazing that is!
A belief in the effectiveness of a sugar pill can result in a positive physiological outcome, even though the belief is not true. This is so powerful that we need to account for it in clinical pharmacological trials with control groups.
Imagine if the same subconscious mechanism responsible for healing your body from a sugar pill was at work for you to achieve your ideal physique, sports performance goals or any goal you have?

Master Your Mind, Master Your Physique – Part 1: Overview
Now Mr Notorious is simply echoing a famous statement by Robert Fritz but the resentment is all the same. In that us humans often limit our performance and goal attainment and settle for mediocrity without even knowing it.
We are limited by what we believe we can achieve, we are limited by our self image.
We’re all about putting the hours into the gym & meal prep, but how many of us put the time and effort into the mental game with-in ourselves? Time & time again we see people at the top of their fields affirming their beliefs that they are the GOAT & for good reason, its effective-
- From an early age Cathy Freemon’s mom would make her constantly write out ‘I am the world’s greatest athlete’. She later became one of Australia’s greatest olympians.
- After winning another gold medal for the Olympic 100m sprint Usain Bolt famously shares ‘I just visualised and then executed my plan’
- Jeff Bezos would routinely affirm to himself ‘My thirst is unquenchable, I am the economy, I will never die’ & we all know how well he’s doing.

In the context of this article were going to explore how to win the mental game by getting your subconscious to work for you to achieve your ideal physique. But these practices can & should be utilised for any goal attainment.
To help me lay this out I’m going to introduce you to my man Steve!
Steve is a lad, he’s been an avid gym bro for some time now & he knows what he’s doing. He progressively overloads in the gym to stimulate hypertrophy, he hits his macros & prioritises recovery.
But sometimes life gets in the way & Steve finds that he’s nowhere close to his ideal physique. After years of dedication and effort he feels like he’s spinning his wheels.
At this point Steve (or any Aussie gym-bro) will typically consider running a steroid cycle, or dabble in some form of mild PED usage. Because logically that must be the answer to pushing through a plateau and achieving the ideal physique, right? Well yes & no…
